2012 CrossFit Open & Schedule Update

This week is your last chance to register for the 2012 CrossFit Open.  You can register here.

Last night, I sat down at the dinner table, took a deep breath and I smiled. It was a big, honest smile. Months of hard work and long hours have gone into getting our Magna athletes ready for the 2012 CrossFit Games Open. Yesterday’s 10 exercise chipper was a test to see if our athletes were ready… the answer to that “if” was written all over my face.

The first workout for the 2012 Open will be released today at 5pm PST. I’m proud to say that 17 of our athletes have registered to compete. Competition and Sport are at the top of the CrossFit pyramid so as an affiliate it is important that we participate in these events. Skip Miller from Front Range CrossFit in Colorado wrote the following statement back in 2011 and I believe that this will always hold true.

“It’s because in a competition, you push yourself further than you are normally willing to go.  The act of competing isn’t important for just the best among us.  It is important for everyone at the gym.  Simply the act of signing up for a race focuses your training and gives you a goal.  Because when we are keeping score, and your score is going up on the Leader Board, it matters. Just by your willingness to put yourself on the line, you are saying something very important about yourself.  It says you are not afraid to face the cold hard truth about your abilities… We want you to compete at something.  At anything you choose to do. We want you to compete because it brings out the greatness in you.”

To accomodate our competitors, we have registered as an affiliate and will be validating scores for the Open WODs at the following times:

THURSDAY 5:30-6:30 pm
FRIDAY 5:00-6:00 pm
SUNDAY 9:30-11:00 am

These time slots will be considered Open Gym so feel free to come work on strength, skills, or do some extra conditioning. All we ask is that you give our competitiors and judges first priority for space and equipment and that you cheer them on as they crush that week's WOD!
